According to Türkiye data, onion production
was 2.6 million tons in total in 2023. The share of dry onion production in total
vegetable production in Turkiye in 2023 was 8.2%. There was a 10.6% increase in onion production in 2023 compared to the previous year. Nevsehir ranks first with approximately 990 thousand tons of production. which meets 38.1% of onion production in Turkiye, is followed by Amasya and Çorum . According to Türkiye’s 2nd estimate of plant production; 2024 production is estimated to increase by 5.3% and be 2 million 737 thousand tons. In Turkiye, in the 2022/23 production season, per capita onion consumption was 24.1 kg and the self-sufficiency rate was 102.9%. This shows that Turkiye is a self-sufficient country in onion production.
